Classes

At Sangha Spot we offer a variety of regular yoga classes suitable for beginners as well as intermediate students. Yoga is suitable for any age group, any shape and size. We believe all can benefit from yoga practice, as long as it’s conducted under good guidance and supervision. Our teachers are experienced and well trained. In addition to yoga we also run a regular NIA class, best describes as a heart-pumping, foot-stomping, gleeful workout that will leave you feeling centred and invigorated. Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga describes any of the physical practices of yoga. If you see a class described as hatha, it will more than likely be a slow-paced stretch class with some simple breathing exercises and perhaps seated meditation at the end. Hatha classes are a good place to learn the basic pose alignment and relaxation techniques to become comfortable with yoga. Benefits of Hatha Yoga In addition to more flexibility and strength, a hatha yoga practice will lead to all the other usual benefits of yoga, like reduced stress, lower blood pressure, more energy and better sleep.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga class is distinguished by its fluid transitions and movement through a series of carefully planned poses. The literal translation of vinyasa is “to place in a special way.” The postures and sequencing vary in every class which allows for a unique and different experience in every class. This healing practice will assist the student to leave the world behind for a healing and self-connecting conscious experience. All levels welcome. The purpose of vinyasa yoga is to use the breath to align the body and mind. You’ll develop a stronger mind-body connection and grow in strength and flexibility. It’s also fun and a great way to build community with your classmates. Benefits of Vinyasa Yoga The most visible benefits are the strength and flexibility that you’ll gain from doing poses. Because of the concentration on breathing, your lungs will get stronger. Even if you’re in a non-spiritual class, the focus on the breath and the physicality of the practice will result in a more mindful, peaceful attitude off the mat.

Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas. Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in performing asanas (postures). The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old. Benefits of Iyengar Yoga Through the practice of a system of asanas, it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being. The discipline is considered by its practitioners to be a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life, in turn helping to promote total physical and spiritual well-being.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is awesome – a dynamic blend of physical postures, breathing, movement, stretching, meditation, mantra and relaxation, the combination of which activates the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, expands the lung capacity, and purifies the bloodstream. Both safe and effective, it brings balance to the body, mind and soul. There is something for everyone, regardless of age, fitness, occupation and experience.

Nia Dance

Nia is a fusion fitness and lifestyle practice which offers a cardio workout as well as body conditioning through the five sensations of functional fitness – Flexibility, Agility, Mobility, Stability and Strength. It blends the precision, power and grace of Martial Arts; the self-expression, fun and playfulness of the Dance Arts; as well as the body awareness of mindful movement. This cardiovascular, whole-body workout is adaptable to every level of fitness, every age and body type.  Movements are simple and repetitive to allow your body to relax and move in sensation whilst strengthening and conditioning the body.
