The Yogic Warrior - Budokon Introduction Workshop
09 February | 11.30 am to 2.00 pm | Cost : R300
The way we do anything is the way we do everything. Move from your ordinary to your extraordinary in this Budokon Introduction workshop, with mixed movement artist Andre Kunkel.
Budokon Yoga is a style of yoga codified and popularized by martial arts and yoga master Cameron Shayne beginning in 2001. The foundation of this style is the Budokon Yoga Primary Series. This series consists of 7 int
elligently assembled sections of slow and controlled movements designed to improve mobility, agility, flexibility and strength.
The techniques are learned through repetition and precision, the emphasis being on the transitions from posture to posture, rather than the holding of postures. The purpose of this workshop is to gain muscular strength, cardiovascular stamina, as well as joint mobility and familiarize the student with the primary series.
About Andre Kunkel:
André Kunkel began his journey with Martial Arts (Kung Fu, Kickboxing and Boxing) from a young age, right through until his mid twenties, when he discovered Snowboarding and Kitesurfing.
It was during this time that he was diagnosed Ankylosing Spondylitis – a serious and “incurable” form of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, causing inflammation of the spinal joints, leading to severe, chronic pain and discomfort. This understandably had a major effect on his sporting career and lifestyle.
Despite this major setback, André chose to view this disease, and the challenges that came along with it, as a blessing instead of a curse.
The journey to heal himself physically brought with it the realisation that the key to health is a combination of the physical, emotional and spiritual realms. During this journey, André studied Yoga, Philosophy, Shamanic Healing techniques and Budokon – a form of Mixed Movement Arts – with some of the world’s most renowned teachers.
André also holds a German Diploma for Medical Engineering. His constant drive to learn and ongoing study of different techniques makes him an ever-evolving teacher with a broad spectrum of knowledge and tools.
As he likes to say, in his typical, no-nonsense approach, “I made it through the shit and I can show you how!”

A Morning of Yoga, Sound Therapy & Music
09 February | 10 am to 1.30 pm | Cost : R420
* A Morning of Yoga, Sound Therapy & Music with Dave Reynolds, Ronan Skillen & Rahle Dusheiko ❃
At 10am at the Sangha Spot in Muizenberg we begin our journey with a yoga class facilitated by Iyengar Certified Yoga instructor, Rahle Dusheiko. The focus is on being within our bodies, quietening the chattering mind and no prior yoga experience is needed.
We then enter Savasana the corpse posture as sound therapists Dave Reynolds and Ronan Skillen take us into a state of deep relaxation using ancient instruments from Asia, South America, Australia and Africa.
Rahle then brings us gently back to Muizenberg where we have a light lunch (meat free, wheat free) after which Dave & Ronan perform a selection of their award winning original musical works.
Home time is 1:30pm.
Please note that we need 6 pledges to confirm the event. It’s a whack cheaper, so the early bird gets to pledge and make it happen…
Yin yoga and live music: a deep stress relief
22 February | 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm | Cost : R180
Back in Muizenberg! David & Tessa are combining their gifts in this two hour journey for a deep stress relief. Great long stretches combined with the soft healing sounds of Koshi chimes, Guitar, Singing bowl and Tongue Drum, to get in touch with your relaxing yin energy. Leading into a long grounding savasana accompanied with a mini soul soothing acoustic guitar concert.
Yin Yoga is the feminine side of the more yang oriented forms of yoga. Yin Yoga is not about a flowing body, it is about a static body to make the energy flow on a deeper level. Yin is all about long holds, slowing down, deep stretching (physical, mental and emotional), softening, surrendering and finding relaxation within resistance. It is about acceptance and daring to be still and to stay with what is. It is an intimate form of yoga that allows you to connect on a deeper layer with your true self, with the light and the dark that you are. It is a beautiful, confronting and magical mirror. An answer to more balance in the yang-oriented world most of us live in. And for a true understanding, experience is the only way!
This practice combined with live music sparks some magic. Music is the space between the notes and sound can travel to places in the body where a posture can’t come. The vibrations might trigger the body to relax on a deeper layer, to let go of things that are not needed anymore. If you can allow yourself to surrender to the sounds and let them enroll you in the now, you give your body permission to relax. Fully and deeply.
Book: email firstname.lastname@example.org
Booking essential as the workshop has a maximum of 16 participants.
‘Tessa and David held such a beautiful space. I’ve never really experienced yin yoga before and to have it coupled with such delicate and mesmerizing sounds, left me feeling so deeply relaxed. Tessa is very present and soothes us into each pose with care, while David created sound waves of release that moved through every inch of my being. I left feeling opened and grounded, exactly what I needed!’ -Michael
‘Tessa’s Yin Yoga workshops are carefully crafted to leave you feeling completely rested and restored. Her warm and friendly nature welcomed me with open arms as she led us through a mindful yin yoga practice. When combined with live music, this experience is even more soulful. I really enjoyed practicing with Tessa, and look forward to her workshops in the future!’ -Tarryn
